Legislative Update – February 7, 2025

Friday, February 7, 2025

Dear Neighbors,

Yesterday, I returned to the Minnesota House Floor to officially begin the 2025 Legislative Session. This was only possible because Minnesota Democrats successfully negotiated a co-governing agreement that protects the will of the voters. This agreement ensures Republicans can’t ignore the democratic process and that our district’s voices and values will be heard.

I’m especially glad that under this co-governing structure, Republicans won’t be able to roll back all the important progress we delivered in 2023 and 2024 like 100% Clean Energy by 2040, reproductive freedoms, universal school meals, and so much more.

I look forward to beginning official committee work next week and serving as the co-chair of the Energy Committee once the House returns to a 67-67 tie next month. I will also serve on the Elections and Government Operations Committee, and the Ways and Means Committee

Rep. Acomb Committee Assignments

Democrats secured an outcome that respects the results of the last election. Republicans and Democrats will co-chair committees with equal membership from both parties once an upcoming special election brings us back to a 67-67 tie. The agreement also has guardrails to prevent future abuses of power by Republicans on the House floor.

Minnesota Republicans were forced to abandon their illegitimate and illegal attempts to commandeer the House, including their undemocratic efforts to unseat DFL Rep. Brad Tabke after he won on election night, in a recount, and in a court case. This shows that despite the chaos on the federal level, DFLers remain committed to doing the important work of governing and protecting our constituents and the democratic process. Our position is quite simple: we believe that voters, not politicians, should decide who wins elections.

With a tied House, I know that we need bipartisan support to pass bills and move our state forward. As we have said since November, Democrats are ready to work with Republicans and govern responsibly while not compromising on our core values.

I am committed to continuing my work on behalf of our district: securing key funding to improve our infrastructure, public services, and life here in District 45B, pushing for energy policy that lowers energy costs while addressing and combatting climate change, and making smart changes to our health care system that lowers prices for prescription drugs, treatment, and increases accessibility.

Working for Our District

As I prepare for committee hearings to begin next week, I want to thank everyone who I’ve met with the past couple of weeks. From leaders in the energy space to our local school districts, mayors, and commissioners, and more. I’m ready to hit the ground running and ensure that our district’s priorities are met.

You can follow my Official State Representative Page to catch up on some of that work and keep up to date with our progress going forward.
