Dear Neighbors, I hope you are getting a chance to enjoy the thaw we are experiencing. Spring is on the horizon and we’re gaining more light every day. Every year it seems we have a bill introduced at the Capitol that would end the twice-yearly time change and make Daylight Saving Time the national year-round standard. A bill with bipartisan authors has also been introduced in Congress. What do you think about ending the time change that comes with Daylight Savings each year?
Legislative UpdateThings are picking up in the Minnesota House. Bills are moving through committee and making their way to the House Floor. We recently voted down HF 20, which would make data collected by the Minnesota Attorney General’s office re-classifying data as private “on individuals.” In essence, this bill would narrow the scope of the Minnesota Attorney General’s office with data that is classified as private, making more of the data public by default. After it failed to receive the 68 votes needed to pass, a motion to reconsider the bill prevailed and the bill was then tabled on a split-voice vote. I’m working on various pieces of legislation to continue building up Plymouth’s infrastructure, specifically to get construction materials tax exempt for renovating Plymouth Boulevard, improving roadway realignment, constructing regional stormwater updates, and expanding Plymouth Ice Center and the Plymouth Community Center. |

I’m also authoring legislation that would provide health coverage for medically necessary dental procedures that are the direct result of cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, biotherapy, and radiation therapy. You can find a comprehensive list of the bills I’m carrying here.
Extreme Risk Protection Orders are saving livesDuring the 2023 legislative session, the legislature took overdue action to protect our communities against gun violence. One of the measures lawmakers enacted allows for Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), also known as a “red flag” law. This tool helps prevent tragedies by allowing law enforcement and family members to request court orders temporarily removing firearms from individuals who pose an imminent risk of harming themselves or others. After one year of implementation, the evidence is clear: Extreme Risk Protection Orders are working. The Star Tribune recently published an op-ed spotlighting the impact of this important law, which you can read here. So far, 135 ERPO cases have been filed, with law enforcement initiating the vast majority of the petitions. The red flag law is saving lives, particularly in situations involving domestic violence or when individuals are experiencing mental health crises. Minnesotans overwhelmingly support common-sense gun violence prevention measures, like ERPOs and criminal background checks, and I remain committed to keeping our communities safe. ![]() It was an honor to meet with Gabby Giffords in St. Paul in 2023 to thank her for all she's doing to keep Americans safe.
Community VisitorsI want to thank everyone that met with me in Plymouth and Medicine Lake to ensure that I was able to hit the ground running once the House was organized. Talking with local leaders, organizations, and neighbors is essential in setting up our community for success. I appreciated meeting with emergency physicians and residents recently from our community employed with Regions Hospital and Hennepin Healthcare. They're the first line of defense, working tirelessly through long shifts, facing the unknown, and providing comfort and care in the most stressful situations. Their dedication and expertise are truly inspiring! I'm always happy to be a legislative partner. ![]() I’ll continue to keep you informed through these legislative newsletters, but I also wanted to let you know about some other resources to track what’s going on in the Minnesota House. The House’s Public Information Services will once again be offering nonpartisan recaps of high-profile bills, committee hearings, and floor sessions with their Session Daily publication.
