REP. DAVIDS SUPPORTS MINNESOTA TAX DOLLARS FOR MINNESOTANS PLAN

Friday, February 7, 2025

ST. PAUL – In an effort to ensure that every Minnesota tax dollar is allocated to a legal American resident, State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) is supporting the “Minnesota Tax Dollars for Minnesotans Initiative” that was recently unveiled by House Republicans.

“Very simply, the plan prioritizes Minnesotans’ tax dollars to be used on people who are citizens of the United States, and not illegal aliens,” Davids said.

The first initiative would prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving state-funded financial aid, grants, subsidies, or other taxpayer-funded assistance. This includes ending free college tuition as well as stopping free health care.

The proposal would also ban sanctuary cities and strengthen immigration enforcement. Davids said the bill prevents local and state government entities from enacting policies that restrict cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. It also mandates reporting illegal immigrants arrested for violent crimes to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ensuring that criminals who are here unlawfully are held accountable.

“It is senseless that Minnesota is prioritizing the wants of illegal aliens over the needs of hardworking Minnesotans,” Davids said. “With a projected budget deficit looming, we need to be finding ways to reduce spending. That starts by ending the practice of handing out freebies to folks who shouldn’t be in this country in the first place.”
