"Today, I joined over 90 legislators from 29 states in calling on the Biden Administration to halt the construction of the Line 3 pipeline expansion project in Northern Minnesota.
While I commend the administration’s decisions to rejoin the Paris Climate Accords and reject the Keystone XL pipeline project, the Line 3 pipeline threatens to severely undercut the progress made by these two decisions. Line 3 is similar in size to the proposed Keystone XL pipeline and would carry the same dirty tar sands crude oil through the Midwest, threatening water quality and the treaty rights of Tribal nations, while adding the same amount of annual emissions to the atmosphere as 50 coal plants.
In order to meet the challenges faced by current and future generations, we must take bold action to combat climate change. The Line 3 pipeline would reverse much of the climate progress in recent years.
The cancellation of the Federal permits for the Line 3 pipeline expansion project will help to guarantee a cleaner, and more equitable American future."
