SAINT PAUL, MN – Representative Sondra Erickson (R-Princeton) took the oath of office at a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday at the State Capitol in Saint Paul, marking the official start of the 2013 legislative session. Erickson, a retired English teacher, is beginning her eighth term in the House and represents District 15A, which includes northern Sherburne County, western Kanabec County, and all of Mille Lacs County.
“I look forward to working with members of the new majority to find common ground and common sense solutions to the problems facing our state,” Erickson said. Erickson will serve on the Education Finance Committee, the Property and Local Tax Division Committee and is the GOP Lead on the Education Policy Committee.
“Our focus this session must be on paying back the remainder of the school shift,” Erickson said, whose other priorities included supporting education reforms that would help to close the achievement gap. “Republicans are committed to a reform agenda that works to close the achievement gap, and helps keep Minnesota’s schools among the strongest in the nation. Our children deserve nothing less.”
Erickson said she hopes to work with members of the DFL majority to balance the budget responsibly and without tax increases. “I look forward to working with the new majority to craft a budget that is balanced responsibly and helps improve Minnesota’s climate for job creators and small businesses,” Erickson said. “Our economy has improved steadily thanks to the responsible budget management of Republicans over the last two years, and we simply can’t afford to risk our fragile economic recovery by raising taxes.”
Erickson’s office is located in the State Office Building, Room 209, across from the State Capitol. She can be reached by phone at 651-296-6746, or by email at Rep.Sondra.Erickson@state.mn.
