ST. PAUL--State Representative Sondra Erickson, R-Princeton, was sworn into office Jan. 4 in a ceremony at the Capitol in St. Paul. Erickson, a retired high school English teacher, was elected to her fifth term in November. She will continue to serve in a leadership capacity in the 2005-2006 session as chair of the Ethics Committee.
Erickson also serves as a member of the Education Finance Committee and the Education Policy and Reform Committee. Additionally, she serves on Regulated Industries and its Gaming Division.
"There are many challenges facing Minnesota this biennium," Erickson said. "We face a projected budget deficit of $700 million, have needs for our schools and nursing homes and will continue to reform health care. I look forward to working with my colleagues and constituents to formulate innovative solutions to these and other issues."
As is tradition, the opening session featured The Land O’ Lakes Choirboys of Elk River and the election of Speaker of the House, House clerk and House officers.
Immediately following the first session of official business in the House, legislators and dignitaries from across the state gathered for the second of many celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the state capitol.
Erickson represents District 16A, which includes all of Mille Lacs County and portions of Morrison, Benton, and Sherburne counties. She may be reached by phone at 651-296-6746 or 1-800-709-0578; by email at email@example.com; or by U.S. Mail at 473 State Office Building, St. Paul, MN 55155.
